Does Rubber Make the Best Gym Flooring?

We get this question a lot.

It really depends on what “best” means to you. For most people in the world of fitness, it means the highest possible durability at the lowest possible cost. Luckily, rubber flooring is an option that seems to be have been born for that. It is one of the best gym flooring options available to people right now because it is highly durable, cost-efficient, and is available in many different styles.

Rubber is often found in two forms in the world of fitness flooring. The first type is the rolled flooring. Rolls of rubber tend to be up to 50ft at maximum length and available in widths of 3ft or 4ft. Installing them is as easy as rolling them out over an outline of double-sided tape. If you want to get a more visual look at what we mean about the tape, take a gander at the video below:

Tile rubber flooring is quite different but no less durable and easy to install. In fact, sometimes the interlocking rubber mats tend to be the more easy DIY setups. Each individual tile is durable enough to be used by itself. Only when they are interlocked together in a larger form are they truly put to their best possible use. Tiles are often available in different colors, so it allows for more visual creativity when architects and designers are involved. Rubber can be made in a variety of different colors so each product is unique.

The floor area in a fitness room needs to be strong enough to survive heavy repetitive weights crushing down on it. Rubber has a natural mixture of durability and elasticity that is unmatched in many other materials. It is shock absorbent and capable of cutting down on noise, especially when you get thicker gauges like 1/4″, 3/8″, and 3/4″.

On the whole, rubber flooring is more cost-effective than many of its plastic counterparts. One of the more popular types of rubber, the recycled tire crumb, is widely used for large gym areas because you can get so much of it at fractions of competing rates.

Rubber is easily one of the best gym flooring options currently available on the market. If you are setting up a new fitness area, whether it is in a large commercial complex or your own basement, rubber flooring will be the best product your money can buy.

It’s interesting how using rubber as a flooring material makes it easier to exercise. Since everyone is stuck at home during the pandemic, my friend is looking for ideas on how to work out at home. I hope this could convince him to install one in the future.
