Physical Properties

Neoprene is a hard synthetic rubber that is highly resistant to most damaging factors, including outdoor environments, heat, and moisture. It can stand up well against deteriorating UV rays and ozone, allowing it to be used both indoors and outdoors. Furthermore, neoprene is available in a wide array of durometers, which refers to the hardness of a material. As an elastomer, neoprene features a moderate degree of flexibility and pliability; however, this can change depending on the durometer. As the durometer rating climbs higher, the density of the material becomes thicker, making it increasingly stiffer and difficult to stretch. This feature gives you the option of choosing which durometer is best suited for your project.

Chemical Properties

Neoprene’s chemical properties are the reasons why it has become such a valued material in industrial workplaces. Neoprene is very resistant to chemicals, such as petroleum-based solvents and acetic acids. Additionally, the distinguishing characteristic of neoprene is its inherent resistance to oils and greases. Due to neoprene’s resistance to chemicals and oils, it is commonly used for industrial seals and gaskets where oil may be present.
